Still here!

I've been wondering how long I would have my Rufous Hummingbirds with me. Every day when I go outside, I half expect that they will be gone. But not yet!

There's No. 1, sitting in her favorite spot, sunning herself. While I was watching her, I sensed movement at the feeder.

No. 2 is still accounted for.

It won't be long now before the migrating Ruby-throated Hummingbirds begin to arrive. I usually see the first one in my yard around the last of March or first of April, but considering how the season is going, I wouldn't be surprised to find one earlier this year. Will the Rufouses still be here when they arrive?

  1. I haven't seen my female Rufous as frequently as before. I'm sure all the blooming spring flowers have kept her busy.

    1. I really expect my visitors to be moving on soon, Steph, but then, birds don't wear watches and they move to their own internal clocks. Sometimes they surprise us.

  2. I haven't seen any hummingbirds since fall (but then again, I haven't had feeders out either) I should probably get my feeders out ready for the arrival of the migrating ruby throats.

    1. According to the hummingbird migration website, there have been a lot of sightings of Ruby-throats along the coast, Jayne, so I would expect them in our area in perhaps a week to ten days.
